Local Church leaders can use EnglishConnect to support spiritual and temporal self-reliance of members and friends of the Church.

EnglishConnect groups led by stakes and wards are a unique opportunity to foster faith and fellowship.

In this context, the program is designed to support weekly conversation practice groups and individual study.

EnglishConnect conversation groups are provided under the direction of local Church leaders and facilitated by members or missionaries. These groups provide a unique opportunity for members and friends of the Church to develop English skills in an environment of fellowship and faith.

Under the direction of mission leaders, missionaries may invite friends of the Church to participate in these member-led groups, participate themselves, or assist in leading groups as part of fellowshipping and finding efforts.

Learners use the learner manual, workbook and audio files to prepare for and participate in conversation group activities. Teachers use the teacher manual to prepare and lead the group activities. Leaders use the implementation guide to implement the program.

Mission leaders can use EnglishConnect to help others develop spiritual and temporal self-reliance and learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Missionaries will be most successful helping friends of the Church when they collaborate with members and support member-led efforts.

In locations where members are providing EnglishConnect groups, missionaries can support these efforts by inviting people to attend, participating in the groups as assistant teachers, and providing supplemental practice opportunities for participants.

In locations where members are not providing EnglishConnect groups, mission presidents may choose to implement EnglishConnect groups or EnglishConnect tutoring with missionaries serving as teachers. One highly-effective approach is to support member-led conversation groups by providing tutoring as an introduction to joining the group or as an additional practice opportunity. EnglishConnect provides a unique opportunity for missionaries to share the gospel in natural ways and invite others to learn more.

As missionaries work with members in this effort, they can support lifelong conversion. EnglishConnect is designed to foster natural gospel conversations and develop relationships with members and friends of the Church.

EnglishConnect is most effective when missionaries support member efforts in leading EnglishConnect. Missionaries can work with members to provide weekly conversation practice groups, individual study, and supplemental tutoring.

EnglishConnect is a simple and powerful tool to help members and missionaries develop lasting relationships and share the gospel in natural ways.

Missionaries teaching or supporting member-led conversation groups will use the learner and teacher manuals, to prepare for and participate in conversation group activities.

Missionaries providing online supplemental tutoring will use these resources for online conversation group training, online conversation group and personal practice activities, and online tutoring.

Mission presidents are invited to help non-English speaking missionaries use EnglishConnect resources to develop English skills that will expand post-mission opportunities for employment and education, specifically through BYU-Pathway Worldwide.

EnglishConnect for Missionaries is specifically designed to be used as a tool for missionaries learning English. The resources can be used by missionaries in personal and companion language study, with or without a native English-speaking companion.

Missionaries are encouraged and approved to study English up to one hour a day as part of the missionary daily schedule. Any additional time should fall within regularly scheduled mission meetings.

Missionaries use the Workbooks and audio files to study on their own, and complete practice activities with their companion. Missionaries may also use the EnglishConnect 1 & 2 learner manuals, available in the Gospel Library App. If approved by the mission president, missionaries can replace the EnglishConnect 3 workbook with the online web app which provides more responsive and intensive practice.
